Bernard Darnton
Friday, December 8th, 2006
Bernard Darnton is the founder of FreeSpeech.org.nz and writer of its Section 14 blog. He has been leader of Libertarianz, New Zealand’s libertarian political party since 2004 and most recently stood for Wellington Central in the 2005 General Election.
In 2006, Darnton sued Helen Clark over the misappropriation of public funds to pay for Labour’s election adveritsing. In the aftermath of this scandal the Clark government has launched a crackdown of election funding and advertising, largely as a diversion from its own misdeeds. The possible effects on free speech of this campaign have been documented in Darnton’s article Goskomizdat Comes to Helengrad on this site.
